Part 1:
Some basic heart knowledge.
The Heart:
The heart is a muscle like other muscles in your body. It undergoes hypertrophy (increases in size) as a result of aerobic/endurance training.
Heart Stroke Volume:
The amount of blood ejected from your heart (left ventricle) increase.
Part 2:
As I train and develop my aerobic foundation, what are some of the physiological changes that will occur within my body?
- Blood flow improves. Active muscles need more oxygen and nutrients. To meet these needs blood must be brought to muscles during exercise. As muscles become better trained, the cardiovascular system adapts to increase blood flow to working muscles
- Oxidative enzymes are special proteins that speed up the breakdown of nutrients to form energy (ATP)
Part 3:
As I train and develop my aerobic foundation, what are some of the physiological changes that will occur within my body?
- Blood pressure changes – endurance training in those with borderline or moderate hypertension reduces resting blood pressure.
- Feel good training – An aerobic training session gives you more energy and helps reduce stress without feeling depleted
Part 4:
As I train and develop my aerobic foundation, what are some of the physiological changes that will occur within my body?
Capillary supply – There will be an increase in capillaries that surround each muscle. Having more capillaries allows exchange of gases, heat, waste and nutrients between blood and working muscle fibers.
